About Hotel Marcel
At Hotel Marcel, we've cultivated a stand-out destination of eco-smart, handsome and thoughtfully accommodating offerings for a one-of-a-kind stay in New Haven. Featuring iconic Brutalist design, thoughtfully curated artwork, and a sustainability-focused operation, Hotel Marcel is paving the way in hospitality.
Our carports and vast roof are covered with over 1000 photovoltaic panels that generate solar power for our own microgrid. A Power-over-Ethernet lighting system and one megawatt hour of battery storage keep all operations running smoothly.
Additionally, the hotel boasts 12 Tesla Superchargers as well as 12 level-two destination universal EV chargers to power-up our guests' electric cars.
Aligned with the craft-meets-utility ethos of The Bauhaus, Hungarian-born architect Marcel Breuer experimented with new advances in technology and building materials to create an architectural framework that seems to defy gravity. Now on the National Register of Historic Places, the hotel's concrete stature has become iconic.
Where modern meets history
Our historic suites retain original mid-century character with meticulously restored finishes, repurposed 1960's light fixtures, and custom furnishings evoking Breuer's pioneering work with The Bauhaus.
The hotel brings modern day experiences to guests through streamlined coworking tables, reimagined historic architectural lighting, Bauhaus-inspired patterned area rugs, and original textile and graphic print artworks.
A highly-curated collection of art throughout public and guest room spaces spotlights a mosaic of original works and site-specific installations by contemporary, local and emerging artists. These artists have a passionate approach to Bauhaus principles that creates a one-of-a-kind journey of rich discovery celebrating the handmade.
